Discover You

Rider spotlight: Paula

At Rocycle we’re all about Mind Body Music, but, just as important is the fact that we’re a family. So, to make sure each class is not just a party but a reunion, we’d like to introduce some of our Ro’Regulars. Today, we’d love to introduce you to another Rorider hailing from Finland, Paula Jääskeläinen. Want to know a little bit more about tap dancing and hitting the studio with her daughter? Well, read on.

So Paula, we’d love to get to know you better. Want to tell us about yourself?

My name is Paula Jääskeläinen, and I love close to the Rocycle City Center studio. I’m 48, and I work as a Customer Relations Manager at a financial training institute. I’m not a native Amsterdammer – as you might have spotted from my complicated last name – I’m originally from Finland. However, I’ve lived in Amsterdam for 10 years already, so I’m pretty Dutchified. I’d spent some time in Gronigen during my studies, and when the opportunity came to work in Amsterdam (at a different job), I moved here. I met my Irish partner very soon after moving, and, since it’s neutral ground for both of us, we stayed!

Nice your family is so international! Kind of like ours here at Rocycle. Speaking of which, how did you find us?

A friend of mine had been to Rocycle and asked me to join her. I did that a year ago and have never looked back!

Definitely best to keep pedalling forward. How do your family and friends fit into your Rocycle story?

My 18-year-old daughter has been to Rocycle a few times, and I’ve introduced the classes to a couple of my friends too.

Keep them coming; the more the merrier! When you bring your pals along to class with you, whose classes do you usually book?

I have several favourites, but the instructors whose classes I seem to go to most often these days are Isabella, Emma and Luuk. It’s a combination of timing – when I’m actually able to go, between work and other commitments – and the style and music of the instructors.

And when you’re not doing the Rocycle signature move along with Luuk or crushing that final pyramid with Emma, how do you stay fit?

I do a lot of cycling around Amsterdam, of course, but I also love Rocycle’s neighbour, Amsterdam Dance Centre. I actually did a tap dancing course there last year (that’s no joke!).

So you like to complement tapbacks with tap dancing! A perfect combination. And, finally, what does Rocycle mean to you?

I was never one of those people who was addicted to doing sports, but now I can’t wait to go to the next class! I’m really happy I found the kind of exercise that really suits me. And it’s always lovely to walk into the studio, with the kind, friendly, positive people around.
