RIDER SPOTLIGHT: ROWIN

08-01-2018

At Rocycle we’re all about Mind Body Music, but, just as important is the fact that we’re a family. So, to make sure each class is not just a party but a reunion, we’d like to introduce some of our Ro’Regulars. Today, one of our biggest fans tells all, dishing about everything from Icelandic yogurt to the motivating power of a strong hip-hop beat to channelling her energy into work and Rocycle. Keep reading to find out more!

Hi Rowin! Happy New Year! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m Rowin, living only 5 minutes away from City Centre but still usually one of the last ones to arrive in class… I’m married to an Austrian, and I work for the Dutch government, responsible for innovating the ways all Dutch universities and colleges teach. I also help create strategic partnerships between each university or college and the municipality in which it is located. This means I travel to a different Dutch city every other day to set up these relationships. I also do projects with other young professionals for the World Economic Forum and set up an expat network for over 3,400 members. As you can see, I can never really sit still.

My goodness you’re busy! Can you tell us how you came to Rocycle, what with your packed schedule and all?

When my husband proposed to me, we wanted a crazy wedding location. It ended up being the main stage of the Tuschinski theatre, so I wanted to look my absolute best. As I fly almost every week and work throughout the whole country, I needed something extremely flexible. Rocycle was recommended to me, and now I am 171 rides further!

171 rides is impressive. You’re a real Ro’regular. So before you joined our family, what sort of exercise did you do? And do you still do any other classes?

I used to do jazz ballet and kickboxing, but somehow I had always stayed away from workout bikes. I still look for other ways of cardio and will finally try a ballet barre lesson soon too.

You’re clearly a bit of a health nut! Does this extend to nutrition and the way you eat?

Nutrition is crucial. I am a big fruit lover and have a yoghurt-based breakfast with Skyr and nuts before a Rocycle workout.

Sounds delicious. Do you have a favourite healthy hotspot in Amsterdam?

I will twist the question: my favourite brunch place to recover at after a full week of Rocycle is the Breakfast Club.

And how about music? Does that help you keep going in class as well?

For me, it’s the number one motivator. Music makes you want to move, and I love the stronger beats of hip-hop music.

Ok, last question. What does Rocycle mean to you?

An amazing way to start my mornings and a home base in between my hectic everyday travel.
