Check your workout drawer for killer costumes
Strolling through the Noordemarkt these days, you’ve probably spied stands overflowing with brightly coloured squash, and you’ve no doubt noticed the vibrant claret and mustard hued leaves on the trees in the Vondelpark on your way in to the studio. And while of course that means it’s the perfect season for hearty stews and pumpkin spice lattes, it also means Halloween is around the corner.
The holiday is only just starting to gain real traction here in Amsterdam, so you may not have put tons of thought into your costume yet. But, that doesn’t mean you have to be a party pooper this Wednesday, nor does it mean you have to drop your whole pay check to assemble a goals-worthy costume. Turns out all those little splurges on fun workout gear are actually useful for more than just your evening Ro’ride or your Sunday morning yoga. A little rifle in your activewear drawer can help you come up with a fun, creative costume with minimal effort.

- #1. Rocky Balboa
What you have: Grab those old grey sweats you only ever wear out of the house and tuck the top into the sweatpants. Throw on some old converse and white socks.
What you need to get: The look is not complete without a read sweatband around your forehead and white boxing wraps strapped around your hands.

What you have: Running shoes, short athletic shorts, tall white socks and an old team t-shirt make for a great base for this look. Even better if you have them in Paulie’s signature yellow and maroon.
What you need to get: Yellow sweatbands for your forehead and wrists.

What you have: Had the sweatpants to be Rocky but not the top? No problem! Pair your grey sweats with an old black t-shirt and a concerned look.
What you need: Pick up a Casio Classic digital watch and a blue bomber jacket.
- #4. Richie Tenenbaum from The Royal Tenenbaums
What you have: Remember that old polo shirt stashed in your closet from the last time you golfed? Perfect. Pair that with some white athletic shorts and one high white sock. No shoes necessary! And don’t forget your racquet.
What you need: Dark aviator sunglasses, a white sweatband for your head and a blue one for your wrist.

What you have: Considering tracksuits have made a comeback, we’re assuming you have a red Adidas one in the closet. Pair it with your running sneakers.
What you need: What we’re guessing you don’t have is a brown mini afro wig.
- #6. Sporty Spice
What you have: Take those cosy, loose track pants you have stored away in your closet and pair them with a sports bra in a complementary hue. Make sure to pull your hair into a high ponytail with a perfectly 90s scrunchie.
What you need: Some temporary tattoos and a fake nose ring to make it a little badass.
- #7. Off-Duty Black Swan
What you have: You and your best friend can go as off-duty ballerinas Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman in Black Swan. Slip into your slouchiest pastel sweats and jumper layered with lots of scarves and socks to be the white swan or don your favourite sleek black leggings and workout top with a comfortable grey hoodie over top.
What you need: A sleek ballerina bun and lots of makeup under your eyes to mimic dark circles.
