RIDER SPOTLIGHT: MAGGY
At Rocycle we’re all about Mind Body Music, but, just as important is the fact that we’re a family. So, to make sure each class is not just a party but a reunion, we’d like to introduce some of our Ro’Regulars. Want to know where Maggie Tuijp goes for healthy breakfasts and how you should never call her before noon on the weekend? Well, read on.
Hi Maggy – thanks so much for chatting with us. Can you introduce yourself?
I’m Maggy, 30 years old, newly engaged, living in the city centre and working for Denham as Development Manager. Our design office is just around the corner from Rocycle. It couldn’t be better.
How convenient is that! So, what brought you to Rocycle, other than the proximity?
In the beginning, I was one of the people saying the usual ‘I don’t like cycling. I don’t like spinning. I don’t like sweaty gyms. So I am sure I will not like this.’ My friends and colleagues persuaded me, and from the very first class, I was hooked. After that, I convinced a lot of other friends, who used the same excuses, to come, and they loved it as well. What brings me to class now is the knowledge that I will have a great full-body workout, and I always feel great after. Also, the results are amazing. I have never been this fit or felt this good.
We love that you’ve convinced your pals to join. How do your friends and family fit into your Ro’story?
My dad and fiancée are both cycle enthusiasts and go out on their race bikes every weekend. They love how I got addicted to cycling as well. My friends have joined the Rocycle family too, so it’s fun to ride with a friend, though I still enjoy coming by myself.
Rocycle has classes from the crack of dawn until well after the sun has set. Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Night owl, for sure! My friends know that they shouldn’t try to call me before 11:00 on the weekend. I need my beauty sleep. 😉
We guess we won’t be seeing you at those 7:00 rides then! Do you have a favourite healthy hotspot in Amsterdam?
Vinnies, which is just around the corner from my house. It has nice juices, healthy breakfasts and good sandwiches.
Perfect for refuelling after class. Ok, last question: what does Rocycle mean to you?
Last June, I travelled to California and Hawaii, and after a week, I realized I really missed Rocycle. For me, missing sports while being on an amazing holiday is a big thing. That’s when I realized how important it is to me. When people ask me what I do for sports, I always say with pride that I am part of the Rocycle family, which naturally leads to the funniest explanations of what we do on a bike.
