Instructor spotlight: judith

At Rocycle we’re all about Mind Body Music, but, just as important is the fact that we’re a family. So, to make sure each class is not just a party but a reunion, we’d like to introduce our instructors so you know a little bit more about them than their signature moves on the bike. Lucky us and lucky you – we’ve got a new instructor in town. Meet our newest addition, Judith. Curious about how she came to join our family and why exercise allows her to push her boundaries over and over again? We’ve got all that and more in this week’s interview with Judith.

Hi Judith! We’re so happy to finally chat with you! Could you introduce yourself?

Of course! My name is Judith, and I’m 23 years old. You may recognise me from the reception desk at Rocycle (small girl, always with a smile haha). I am now in the last year of my Sports Management degree. I’ve been into sports since I was young. I always loved to dance (and sing), but at the age of 14 I tried many different sports from running to cycling to fitness. My love for sports as well as for organising events and parties helped me with my decision to study this.

So you were a regular Sport Spice even from a young age, huh? Can you tell us what brought you to Amsterdam and then to Rocycle?

I was born in Diemen, which is near Amsterdam, but have lived here for two years now. Amsterdam always felt like home because I always spent a lot of time here when I was living in Diemen. I moved to Amsterdam because I wanted to live on my own, first in a student hotel and now in my place around the corner from Rocycle. I actually saw Rocycle on the internship website at school and spotted it every day when I cycled past on my way to class. I checked the website and was immediately interested! I instantly emailed Roxy to see if they wanted an eager intern, and they did. After my first class on King’s Day 2017, I was hooked and took many more since then. I loved my internship so much that I stayed on to work as a Studio Assistant. And now, my next adventure starts: Instructor at Rocycle! WOOHOO.

Sounds like the Rocycle dream! Do you find there’s a spiritual or mental component to exercise?

Exercising, for me, is a mental place where I can push my boundaries over and over. Going through so much training stress makes me deal with struggles that life throws at me so much more easily. For me, exercising is a way of life; constantly trying to be the best version of myself is a standard I want to live by as much as possible.

We adore that attitude. We’re right there with you. We obviously know Rocycle is a killer workout, with all those pyramids and tap-backs, but what do you do to stay fit outside of the studio?

I love to sleep. Sleep is my best friend! After a hard day of working out, my body needs to rest so I can give all my energy the next day. I also love to do some other sports like fitness, dancing and pilates.

Sleep is totally an important part of a healthy routine, and often one many people forget. Speaking of healthy routines, do you focus on nutrition? How do you fuel yourself on a teaching day?

Yes! Healthy life, healthy mind. I try to eat as healthy as possible. Enough protein to recover from the workouts is very necessary.

Do you have a favourite healthy hotspot in Amsterdam where you put this in action?

SOIL! It’s on the Bilderdijkstraat, and they also have vegan options. Salad bowls, breakfast bowls, healthy sandwiches. It’s a cute, small hotspot. My favourite! If you want to go there together, let me know!

Be careful what you wish for! We just might join! Alright, last question. What does Rocycle mean to you?

Rocycle isn’t just a company, a sport, a workout. It’s an addition to your life. I’ve met amazing people that inspired me, I’ve learned so much during my internship and work and I feel so much love every time I go to Rocycle. This all made me so much more secure about things in life. And when I did my first class, I knew I wanted to be an instructor – and that dream came true!
