My Morning Routine: Rogier

Have you ever wondered what it was like to wake up another person? Now, you can. We checked in with our badass founder, Rogier van Duyn, to find out what his mornings look like. It’s finally time to wake up on the right side of the bed!

6:30 AM

” Wake up. ”

6:35 AM

” Meditate. I discovered meditation a few years ago but just recently became disciplined with it, really making it work. Struggling with the stress that comes with a competitive mind and character, I noticed meditating regularly keeps my mind more focused and calm. It’s something I look forward to. With calmness comes strength. ”

7:00 AM

” Brush teeth. ”

7:05 AM

” Walk with my lab Rover for 25 minutes. The biggest gift of the day! ”

7:30 AM

” Work out at my gym. I live 100 metres from one, so I jump into workout gear and walk straight into the weight zone (no locker needed). I don’t usually work out longer than 35-40 minutes. ”

8:15 AM

” Get ready. ”

8:30 AM

” I’m either on my way to the office or start on some work at home. ”

Alright Rogier, now that we’ve got an idea of what your typical morning looks like, we’ve got a few more questions. Would you say you’re a morning person?

” Yes, I am a huge fan of my mornings. There is something magical about rising and shining before most other people do. It’s the stillness and the sounds of nature that I really enjoy when I wake up. Besides that, I am most efficient doing all the brain work until around 11:00 AM. After that, I try to schedule my meetings. ”

Somehow the most successful people always seem to be early birds! It seems like you like to do your brain work early in the morning, but does that extend to body work? Do you prefer to work out first thing in the morning or in the evening?

” It depends on the workout. I train with weights 3-4 times a week in the morning. I like to do my Ro’rides in the evening especially right before going out to get me started. It works better than tequila. ”

Hahah we love that! The true pregame. Do you have a go-to breakfast?

” My breakfast is the same 365 days a year: oat porridge with honey, bananas, blueberries and a cappuccino with oat milk. I also take a multi-vitamin and omega-3 pill every other day. ”

It seems like you like cappuccinos, but which do you prefer: coffee or tea?

” Coffee. The stronger the better! ”

And, speaking of wakeup calls, we’ve got one final question. What wakes you up? The sun? An alarm? Rover?

” I wake up naturally. ”
