Power Hour: The Quick & Dirty Deep Clean

These days, we all keep our homes pretty clean all year. We no longer have to throw open the windows to rid our homes of the scent of burning firewood after winter, but it’s still a nice practice. There’s nothing better than walking into your home and feeling like everything is spic and span and right where it belongs.

We are totally on board with a top-to-bottom cleaning that takes a whole weekend, but really, who has the time for that? After all, we still want to squeeze in that Saturday morning Royal ride and treat ourselves to a long, luxurious brunch afterward. So for those of us who want the most bang for our buck with our spring cleaning, we’ve devised a speed cleaning plan. With just an hour in your undoubtedly busy schedule, you can refresh your space for the gorgeous season to come. We promise!

What will you need? An hour of free time, a phone or a kitchen timer so you can stick to the schedule, an outfit you don’t mind getting a bit dusty and your typical cleaning supplies. We love The Package Free Shop for zero waste home supplies. Ready? Ok go!

Kitchen: 15 minutes

  • Unload the dishwasher, refill it with anything in your sink and set it to run. If it’s empty, put a cup of white vinegar in the bottom and run it to clean the machine.
  • Spray your counters with counter spray and wipe with a microfiber cloth.
  • Give the front of appliances a once-over with a damp cloth.
  • Replace your dish towel with a fresh one.

Bathroom: 15 minutes

  • Spray all surfaces with a natural bathroom cleaner and leave to sit.
  • Go over mirrors with a damp cloth.
  • Scrub sinks, toilets, tubs and counters you sprayed first.

Living area: 15 minutes

  • Dust your hard surfaces with a wand duster.
  • Toss blankets and pillows in the dryer to give them new life.
  • Vacuum the floors and baseboards, as well as any soft furnishings.

Bedroom: 10 minutes

  • Flip your mattress and rotate it.
  • Make your bed.
  • Dust your hard surfaces with a wand duster.
  • Vacuum floors and baseboards.

Everywhere in between: 5 minutes

  • As you go from room to room, pick up and put away anything noticeable you pass.

Have a few extra minutes and want some bonus points? Then feel free to tackle a few more tasks. Clean your light fixtures and baseboards. Wash your doors, handles and knobs. Wash your windows, and then wash your bedding and put fresh sheets on the bed.

Whether you go for the power hour or go whole hog for the extras, we hope you have a happy spring cleaning!
