Refrigerator Lookbook: Dennis

Ever wondered how our instructors stay so fit and healthy? Did you ever think that maybe if you ate like them (and maybe trained too!) that you would have just as killer abs? We know we do all the time. Finally, you have the chance to be a fly on the wall. Or, a fly in the fridge, rather. Each of our instructors has shared a snap of their refrigerators, full of everything from fresh lemons to an army of tonic bottles.

Hey Dennis! We see that your fridge is quite empty! Do you normally cook at home? Or do you eat out more often?

I cook at home, but not that often. If I cook at home I buy the groceries the same day because if I buy groceries for the week, a lot of stuff just stays in the refrigerator and needs to be thrown out at the end of the week because it’s past its expiration date (or it gets covered with mould…). Mostly I eat with other people or eat out or order food. My stove had been used about three times in July I think haha.

Only three times! Well, at least your house must stay cool. Can you tell us about that pot that’s hanging out there? What’s inside?

That pot has some leftover cooked pasta in it, which I should probably check because it has been sitting there for 5 days… When I do cook at home, I mostly make pasta with broccoli, cheese and pesto sauce. Because I don’t like to do much dish washing, I just leave the leftover pasta in the pot and put it in the refrigerator to eat another time. Or I forget about it and then end up throwing it away.

We hate doing dishes too, to be honest. We’ve spotted a carafe of water. Do you infuse it with anything? How much water do you drink in a day?

At home, I only drink water. I do have some syrup in my fridge as well, but that’s for people that come over so they have the option to drink something besides water. The reason I only drink water is because when I was a kid I used to drink a lot of sodas. I was addicted to Coca Cola. And that made an impact on my teeth. My dentist told me that my teeth had some erosion, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but if it kept going at the rate I was, I would have front teeth half their size in ten years. So she suggested I should drink more water. And from that moment, I stopped drinking sodas and just drank water. I still sometimes drink a soda but just once a week, and if they have straws, I drink it with a straw so it’s not that bad for your teeth.

No wonder you have such perfect teeth. If you had to cook dinner for one person from what’s in your fridge, who would it be and what would you make them?

If I had to cook something with the things that I have in my fridge now, my only option would be my pesto pasta with broccoli and cheese. And who should I cook that for… oh, I know! I could cook it for Kai or Sander. They are my two best friends, and I know that they love this dish. And I know that either of them would be a fun dinner guest as well.

We’re available for dinner! We don’t see any junk food inside. Are you a pretty healthy eater?

I have my moments. Sometimes I can be super unhealthy and eat lots of burgers and fries and snacks. That can carry on for a couple of weeks, but then I switch into super healthy mode, where I try to not eat too much sugar and make sure that I eat enough vegetables every day. And then I don’t snack on chocolate or donuts but on a nut mix.

The only thing that stays consistent healthy for me is my breakfast. A nice bowl of yoghurt with oatmeal, blueberries and a bit of honey.

Sounds healthy and delicious – not bad! If you could trade fridges with anyone, who would it be and why?

My mum and dad’s! Because it is always filled with food. Not necessarily always food that I would eat normally, but you can always be sure that when you open their fridge you will find something that you can eat.

A full fridge is a happy fridge. So, last question: is there anything missing from the fridge that you normally have inside?

Sometimes you can find some leftover food in containers from when I’ve ordered food in. But apart from that, this is pretty much what my fridge looks like all the time. And to be honest, this is a very full fridge for me. My friends always are surprised when they open my fridge because it’s so empty.

Healthy body, healthy mind.
