Rider spotlight: Annabel


At Rocycle we’re all about Mind Body Music, but, just as important is the fact that we’re a family. So, to make sure each class is not just a party but a reunion, we’d like to introduce some of our Ro’Regulars. Today, we sat down with Annabel Bleumer to hear about always running late and how two breakfasts are better than one.

Hi Annabel! So happy to chat with you and hear more about your life. Can you introduce yourself?

I am 25-years-old, living in the centre of Amsterdam with my sister and enjoying my life here with all the nice facets of the city! I like to explore new places in and outside the city and try to travel as much as possible. I have worked in the fashion industry for four years now and am currently working in sales and styling at the head office of Suitsupply. I have a passion for nutrition and beauty, too, and like to explore this by taking new courses like orthomolecular medicine and skin therapy.

With a passion for nutrition, it makes sense you’d come to Rocycle. Can you tell us how you found us?

My friend Larissa (and colleague at the time) introduced me to Rocycle. First, I was a little sceptical, but after the first lesson, I was hooked immediately! I had never found a workout that was so much fun and also freed up your mind at the same time. It took some practice to feel comfortable, but after 3 or 4 lessons, you get the moves and the rhythm, and I am still as enthusiastic today as I was one year ago!

Sounds like fate. Before you joined our family, what sort of exercise did you do?

I always played hockey when I was younger. We had a team of close friends, but when I moved to Amsterdam, it was difficult to find a nice alternative. I tried different gyms and classes, but I really like intense workouts without too much competition. I was really happy when Larissa took me to Rocycle.

You mentioned your interest in nutrition. Can you tell us how you fuel yourself on a ride day?

I think nutrition is an important facet in my life at the moment, and I think it is getting more and more attention for everybody. I try to eat less refined sugar, processed meat and dairy products. When I started eating less sugar, I felt way more energetic and also better in a physical way, so I really believe in healthy choices for a better quality of life. However, I really like going out for dinner – fresh seafood, a good glass of wine – so it’s all about the balance. When I have a Rocycle class in the morning, I always have breakfast twice. It’s my favourite meal of the day!

And do you cycle outside of the studio?

Not really, actually. Only on summer days for short cycles in the city. I use my scooter a lot because I am always late and in a hurry!

You’re a woman on the go! So, finally, what does Rocycle mean to you?

It is the perfect match of an intense and, above all, fun workout, where I can completely clear my mind and forget about everything. After every lesson, I feel better because of the great atmosphere and the endorphin rush I get!
