Rider spotlight: Hayley
At Rocycle we’re all about Mind Body Music, but, just as important is the fact that we’re a family. So, to make sure each class is not just a party but a reunion, we’d like to introduce some of our Ro’Regulars. Forget an American in Paris, today we’ve got an American in Amsterdam. Read on to hear about where Hayley Daen snags the healthiest bites (unfortunately, it’s a very, very VIP situatie) in town and how you’d be luckier to spot Big Foot on a weeknight evening after 8:00pm.
Hi Hayley! We’re so happy to chat with you today. Can you introduce yourself?
Absolutely. My name is Hayley, and I have recently crossed the threshold into middle age. Ok, ok not middle age but mid-twenties! A regular southern belle, I grew up in Charleston, South Carolina before moving to Scotland for university. After 6 years in the U.K., I moved to Amsterdam with the promise of a visa.
That’s quite a circuitous route. And how about Rocycle? How did you find us?
As Rogier can attest, I was probably the most annoying, earliest Ro’fanatic. Whilst I was living in London, I worked for Psycle, helping them to develop their blog and lending a hand as front of house. Naturally, I became a regular so needed to find a suitable replacement upon moving to Amsterdam. Lucky for me, Rocycle opened its doors a few short months after I moved, and they haven’t been able to get rid of me since (I even get to work with you guys J).
So you were here from Day 1, eh? And before you joined our family, what sort of exercise did you do? Do you still do it?
To be honest, I’m quite lazy and find it difficult to motivate myself without threat of flushing €20 down the drain. So other than the occasional yoga class, most of my exercise comes from boogying on a night out.
And now you can dance on the bike too. You mentioned you like a good night out, does that mean you’re a night owl? Or are you more of an early bird?
Now that I am ancient, I am desperate to be in bed before the clock strikes 9:00 on weekdays. That being said, on the weekends, I have an equally difficult time leaving a party and taking myself to bed.
Early to bed, early to rise, makes you healthy, wealthy and wise, as they say. Speaking of healthy, do you have any favourite healthy haunts in town?
I tend to do most of my cooking at home, but truly the best spot to get food that tastes even better than it is for you is my mother’s kitchen. When I bought an apartment earlier this year, the most difficult part about moving (granted, I’m only a few blocks away) was leaving my mom’s amazing cooking behind.
Well aren’t you lucky! So, last question: what does Rocycle mean to you?
Rocycle is an ideal workout for me: it’s efficient, it’s fun and it’s close to my house!
